GAP camp

BEWARE: long post ahead

ok, so these past four days I have been at Gap camp at Brandon high school. GAP stands for " go AP" and i had the time of my life there. I have to admit, I miss taking notes and doing school related activites. The most fun of the week though was when we did the team building activities. we did everything from a human knot, to games like " dont be the dot". and guess what? out of like, 80 freshman, i was one of the five with the dot. Grrr... lol my favorite was when we all sat in a circle and layed in each others lap. the upperclassmen would pull the chairs out from beneath us, so we , the goup of around 80, had to support each other while laying in our neighbors lap and supporting our other neighbor on our own. Jarrett Epps caused the dominoes effect when his kegs gave out beneath him. i mean, we did scavenger hunts in the rain, melting crayons, getting prizes, touring the school, and now i definitely feel prepared. and mrs hillary, i hope you are reading and paying attention to this particular part. I met my english teacher, and we got to sit in one of the classrooms while she directed us. But it didnt even seem real to me. I just felt like i was still your student, and the reality of high school hasnt sunk in yet. It was so wierd.

holding hands from a distance

about 2 or 3 posts ago, I mentioned one of the seniors at the assisted living residence whom i call my fiance. well, despite all of those unforgettable and happy times at the residence, it has its share of sad ones too.
I heard today that he died. personally, I am still in shock. I've witnessed, or ( worked at that place and experieced) 3 deaths. I havnt once been there for any of them, but it makes me sad to talk to one, them brighten up my day, and then this happens.
I got to go into his room today. It still smelled like him, and all of his jackets and hats were still hung up on the coatrack. His momentos and awards from the army( or wherever he served) still hung up in pride; he treasured these things.
But I know that he is in a better place, where he is probably wearing his cowboy hat and " tying up them cows with a lasso." I wont let this unfortunate experience really get to me. I came to work there, and part of growing up is to learn how to accept these things. We all come and go; it is a part of life. But I will always remember him. In fact, he will be the shining star of my next poem, where i promise not to focus on the bad, but to concentrate on what a wonderful man he was, so funny and kind. And I want to tell everyone that this wasnt a bad thing. It was his time.
But i did love him, and cant wait for him to hold my hand again...

Beyond the clouds shadow,
the sun hides away
the sky ahead rumbles
and it all turns grey.
I miss the warm sunshine
and the happiness it brings
for it helps to remind us
of the simplest of things.
My tounge catches a droplet
as I shield my head
and retreat into solitude
to lay in my bed.
The pitter of raindrops
against the old pane
I close my eyes-
this is so mundane.
A habit is forming
with the summers days
it refuses the fun times
and the suns joyous rays.
You know that old song
that the childen say?
i sing to myself
and turn away.
"May the rain make its exit
and follow about,
so the summer can start
and I can go out!
dedicated to daddy...

" cupookie creation"

ok... so tonite, Morgan spent the night at my house. It got a little boring in the beginning, but things took a turn when Morgan and I decided to make our own cookies without following the help of any recipe. It was gonna come from our OWN minds. So sit back, relax, and enjoy this totally awesome story of the origin of the cupookie! {cup-ookie}:" noun; the mix between a cupcake and a cookie."
the #1 rule in making our cupookies is to use ingrediants you have at hand. We simply just kinda brainstormed about what would taste good in a normal cookie. The key is to grab things that, well, you like in a dessert or eat when you have a sweet tooth. ( remember, ask your parents permission before using the oven.) We, to be a bit vague about it, used some things like hersheys syrup and red sprinkles. And then, the basics... you know what they are. We wont elaborate on the ingrediants or directions, but we want to point out one of our discoveries during our experiment. When working with the sprinkles and a few other ingredients, our small side bowl ended up looking like strawberry milk. That, actually, made our recipe even more special. And in the end, we had spots of red in the cupookie!! So, your probably wondering how the heck we came up with the name " cupookie." Well, its quite simple. Our mixture of ingredients ended up a bit too runny, so we decided to use one of those cupcake pan thingys with the paper holders!! :) So, after a bit of this and that, ( very original ideas i might add) we baked em'. Well, when we took them out ate ate one, we found they were a bit mushy in the center, so we let the second batch bake a little longer. And they came out fluffy and perfect! Then, when that batch was done, we put the original batch back in to bake some more. Thus, Morgan and I created the cupookie. ( Morgans recipe, our Brains, my writing, our handywork, and our creation...)

sensational, shameless, no not sang-froid " seniors"

first of all, I would like to point out that the word " sang-froid" is wicked awesome. For those of you who dont know the definition, it beens having the state of calmess; keeping your cool.
Now, for the good stuff... Every Saturday and Sunday evenings from 4:00-6:00, I volunteer at an assisted living facility. Rule #1- never call it an old fokes home. younger, disables residents reside there too, and calling it that would be very disrespectful. Now, these past weeks have all come and gone so fast. Volunteering there gives me the pride and feeling of accomplishment, and boy is it EVER so hilarious. After all, you never know whats gonna go on there. heres a very, uh, interesting list... ( please-continue reading-this is worth your while)
- when asking a very polite and humorous resident what she would like to drink for supper, she simply looked and me with one of those wide grins and said " vodka!"
-I was escorting a lost resident to her room because she forgot where it was. When I took her inside, she asked me to help her take her jewelry and coat off. I had laid her coat on her sofa, only to turn around and see her with no shirt on. no bra either.
-A very impatient and thirsty resident always askes for about 2-3 cups of cranberry juice per meal. If he doesnt get it within a 5 minute period, he flags you down and throws a fit.
- There is a younger resident , who, sadly, has the mind of an eight year old. She sometimes brings her barbie to the table, and one time started kicking the entrance door and screaming that she couldnt get out to go to church. And all the while, she stands there cursing. :0
-Theres a resident who had asked me how old I was. When I stood there and told him 14, he said " well, dang. I was gonna ask you to marry me." Ever since then, he has been my " fiance."
-That same man had come to supper wearing a cowboy hat one evening.
I was calling him a cowboy, and when i asked him if he was gonna tie up some cows with a lasso, he sat there and went " yes. Moooo!"
-My favorite resident, who is either 97 or 99 years old once told me that he was too old to, uh, do any " harm" to a woman if you know what I mean."
- One resident didnt come down to dinner one evening, and when i was asked to go get him, he opened the door with his fly undone.
- onother resident sits down for dinner beating his hands against the table. As I was dealing with another resident, he got up and " let one loose" with each step he took.
- That same man mentioned above also pees in the middle of the hallway. wow.
- A very kind lady resident there has a communication problem. We saw her talking one day, and thought it was to another resident. It turns out, she was talking to the mirror. When we called her down for supper, she turns to her reflection and says " I'll kill you later. "
- There is another lady who I think is definitely the life of the party. She'll take any given moment to bust a move on the floor, and within seconds she's got both residents and employees " shakin their tail feather."
- Ahh... the audacity of some seniors! I went to go pick up this mans tray, who, might I add, had licked his bowl clean. As I went for it, he slapped my hand and said " I'm not done! Theres still more!" well, that bowl was so clean it was sparkling...
- Nothing more confusing than trying to communicate with a spanish resident. Apparently, her teeth were hurting, and she would fuss when we brought her food. " Coffee! Coffee!" she argued.
- When you get to be that age, you sometimes dont have it all together. One resident thought she had lost her money, and was questioning one of the other residents at her table about it. That lady was offended, and the two of them fought the whole evening until the one left and marched to her room.

Well, I can assure you that there will be more stories to come. And trust me, some have left me scarred... lol. I'll get back to you all on them!!

randomness =D

well, I've had no specific thing to write about, so I'm going to just gather up some random things that have gone on in the past week. well, Im starting to become a bowling freak. Bowling is on my mind 24/7 since I am on leagues and stuff. my mom hooked me up with this private coach that turned out to be my same coach from camp. I am waiting anxiously for any mail to come about the america library of poetry, even though i probably wont get any word till september 30 when the results are posted on the website. I just got a myspace, which is really wierd since i DO NOT approve of it. I'm scared someone is gonna track me down. but i only got one to keep in touch with my cuzin from california, and, I've ended up with 40 friends on there. who knew im so popular? lol. I have a new preggo teacher to keep track of. I'm constantly worrying about her because I want to know if she is feeling all right with her morning sickness and all. I've been babysitting, mostly for that teacher, whose name I wont announce. I'm sick of the rain; its very depressing. Every Tuesday night i host a small viewing party for the secret life of the american teenager. Both morgan and jordan come over. Courtney Peterson is moving to Virginia within the week, and I'm close to the point of tears. I want to see Mrs. Hillarys little squirt, lol. I cant get in my writing mode, like, AT ALL. I havnt written anything all summer. I need to be in school, i think. Idk, but it just kinda stimulates my brain. I really cant think of anything else to say, but I've been really bored. please, someone get together with me and lets do something!!! lol.
